Making a Great Salad and Life Update

Hi everyone! I’ve been a bit quite lately, and for good reason. I’ve had a LOT going on! One of the fascinating things that happens when you go raw is not only does your entire body transform, but so does you entire life. Since I have gone raw I have become more in tune with my body making it easier for me to listen to what it and my soul has to say. The most beautiful part of the transformation is the spiritual part, which I have been focusing more on too. Balance has been my main objective. So, part of my transformation was realizing, deep in my soul, how unhappy I was with my life. I set out to make changes and to stop torturing myself all the nonsense that was causing me grief.

My biggest change to date was getting a divorce after a long 14 year marriage. I have learned many lessons from the marriage and have left it with no regrets. The divorce has allowed me to grow in leaps and bounds and has also helped me to create a deeper trust with myself and the Universe. My interests in Meditation, Reiki, Laws of Attraction, Positive Thinking, Metaphysics, and many many more subjects has flourished and I am so grateful.

Now, for those of you that follow me on Facebook you may have noticed my relationship status changing recently from “single” to “In a relationship with Lee Collins“, well, lets just say he’s amazing. I’ve been really shy about all of it in public eye, so forgive my shyness, it’s still new. There are good things to come from this.

I also have a new website called RecipesGoneRaw.com that I have been posting raw food recipes to that I fine all across the web. I have tons of requests from people asking me to send them recipes to get started and this is part of my solution. I also have a Facebook page for Recipes Gone Raw so check it out and like it! I just can’t help but share all the fabulous raw food recipes that people create.

I am also doing more photography. Since I have made this raw transformation, I am finally comfortable in my own skin, which makes creating art a lot easier. I have my gallery on SmugMug and a Photo Blog Website too! Check them out and let me know what you think.

Giving Blood

Confession: I am a needlephob. So, when I saw flyers around the office this morning advertising blood donations, my first reaction is to take my usual stance of rejection because I despise needles that much. But after thinking about it for a while (and the nudge of a friend who needed moral support) I decided to do it. Why? Not for the free t-shirt (even though it’s cool) or the free zoo passes (bonus for the kids) or even the satisfaction of selflessly giving something of myself to someone who needs it (Ok, maybe a little of that) but because I wanted to have the free blood work results. You see, since I have started on this raw food journey I have not had any kind of blood work done. The normal things relating to the body and the changes that I have experienced fascinate me.

The first things they do for you is to check your blood pressure. Normal.

Second thing they do is check your body temperature. Spot on at 98.6.

Third thing they check is your pulse. 65. Whatever that means.

Even asked about my iron levels. Normal! Hehe.

The other fear I have had with donating blood besides the whole needle issue is the possibility of becoming lightheaded and even fainting after it’s all said and done. I have never fainted and didn’t want to start. I am happy to report that I have had neither incident happen thus far.

However I have noticed an increase in appetite. I must go eat something. Maybe it’s time for some raw brownie balls.

Tropical Rice

One of the traditional things to do with the family in the summer time is to have a cookout. There is no need to avoid such get togethers when there are delightful dishes such as this that can be enjoyed by all. This light dish is perfect for those hot summer days. The blend of savory and sweet, but not too sweet, satisfy the taste buds while the addition of papaya adds a tantalizing twist.

Tropical Rice

2 lbs. of Jicima

1/2 cup unsweetened Coconut Flakes

1/4 Pineapple, chopped

1/4 Papaya, chopped

1 Lime, juiced

1″ Ginger, finely graded

1 tsp Himalayan Sea Salt

Peel jicima and chop into large chunks. Add to food processor and pulse until it is a rice consistency. Add lime juice, ginger and salt. Pulse until blended. Place mixture in a large bowl. Add coconut flakes and mix together. Add pineapple and papaya chunks and gently fold in. Enjoy!

Strawberry Jam

Warning: This is raw and totally amazing. Taste with caution. You may decide to devour the entire batch in one sitting. Please refrain…or not.

Strawberry Jam

1/3 cup prunes

1 1/2 cups whole strawberries, stems removed

1 Tbsp. raw honey

Blend all ingredients together in the food processor. Let it sit for about 1 hour in the fridge to thicken.

Suggestion: ice cream topper (Click ->here<- for an easy, healthy banana ice cream recipe that is to die for.)

Raw Food, Weight Loss, Spirituality and Art

It’s not apparent in the beginning, the connection between raw food, weight loss, spirituality and art, but surprise, it all is. Let me explain. You see, we have become a society of convenience in which the industrial industries control. Keep the people ignorant about their food (and keep it cheap) and the big dogs profit. I don’t believe that people are ignorant. We are all intelligent human beings and on some level of consciousness it is realized what food is good for the body and what is not. Don’t believe me? Stop and listen to conversations about food that is obviously not healthy. Most are casual conversations ranging from “I know I shouldn’t eat this.” to “How many calories are in this?” and “Oh, I shouldn’t have eaten that or that much of it.” Yet, it’s a habit and habits are hard to break and change. It’s also a fear of giving up comfort foods. Most cooked foods are called comfort foods or soul foods for a reason. They comfort and numb our soul from heart ache, stress, unhappiness with life and even our connection with our spirit. It’s only a temporary fix and does not benefit us in the long run. The life has been killed out of the food when it’s cooked and therefore kills the energy of it. When consuming raw foods that still have all of their energy intact, it raises the bodies energy and clears out the numbness that cooked foods creates. This is also know as detoxing. There are so many that have never experienced the aliveness, health and clarity that is felt on a raw food diet that is hard to imagine what I’m so passionate about (It’s odd, I get it and i won’t make you ear it so relax). I originally started this diet to loose weight but the mind numbing fog that years of consuming junk food creates began to lift and I realized that I had a lot of emotional crap to deal with. Let’s face it. We all have our issues, including me and we all have our own ways of dealing with them, healthy or not, I chose food. I think a lot of other people choose food as well.

The weight came off quickly and effortlessly. So, then I was left with the crap. It took a while to get through all of it. Hey, this stuff didn’t accumulate overnight, you know. Once some of the major stuff was healed is when the truly fascinating stuff started to happen. Life became that much more magical. I realized that so many of my problems and others problems stems from our disconnection with our souls and from source (most call this God so don’t be offended that I do too). I came to realize this as I was trying to get a deeper connection with my creative side, I was missing the point. Creativity stems from God and the more connection there is with God, the clearer the creative messages and inspiration is, not to mention it become a bit easier to create. So, I’ve been learning to tune in. Part experiment, pure curiosity. The result? A deeper peace. Being comfortable with who I am. Dropping the insecurities that have plagued my psyche. The openness to put myself out there and share what I am doing. Removing my blocks and walls that have had me hulled up in some mental cave with hardly any light to survive. Inspiration. Happiness.

As a side note:

Don’t worry, I’m not some religious fanatic or anything and I’m not really into having big religious debates. Its just not my thing. However, I am fascinated with religion, all religions and spiritual practices and am open to and respectful of everyone’s view of the same thing.
